Birth Time adjustment for those born before 1982.

*Important Note* For those whom were born in Singapore/Malaysia before the year 1982 & are ardent fans & followers of Vedic Astrology, then this post is very relevant to you!!

Hi all. In today’s topic, I would like to explain an important information on birth time provision to a Vedic Astrologer. This is very much relevant to Singaporeans/Malaysians & especially to those whom were born in Singapore/Malaysia before the year 1982.

For those whom were aware, there was a time shift that took place on 1st Jan 1982 in Singapore & Malaysia. Prior to 1st January 1982, Singapore & Malaysia were following a GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) of +7hr30Min. From 1st January 1982 onwards, both countries agreed to carry out a time shift of 30 mins ahead and follow a GMT of +8hr00Min. So how is this relevant to Vedic Astrology?

Well, one whom knows the fundamentals of Vedic Astrology will be aware that both the Place of Birth & Time of Birth is extremely important. These 2 information are used to cast one’s birth Chart. With this information, an Astrologer is able to specify the positions of the planets in Zodiac Belt at the time of birth (up to the exact degrees) and this information is transposed in an individual’s Raasi Chart. From the Raasi chart, other charts such as the Bhava and Navamsha (D9) is extracted. From these charts, an astrologer is then able to predict the past and future events of an individual.

In addition, there is one other important factor in Vedic Birth Chart which is known as Lagna/Ascendant. Lagna is the starting & most crucial point in a birth chart which is also known as the 1st house. From the position of Lagna/1st house, one can then decipher the other houses and will be able to make predictions on one’s wealth, family, children, education, profession etc. And Lagna stays in one Rasi for a period of 2 hours approximately (There are 12 raasis and Lagna moves through all 12 raasis within a time span of 24hours).

Therefore, based on the aforementioned, we now know the importance of birth time provision. One needs to be as exact as possible in providing the time of birth.

This is where Singaporeans/Malaysians (born before 1982) needs to be careful when providing their birth time to a Vedic astrologer. A difference of half an hour in birth time error can make a significant difference in casting the Raasi Chart. It can even change the position of Lagna and the entire horoscope reading will go wrong!! In my own experience, I have seen this numerous times. This is why I chose to write this article.

Therefore, then what does one need to do when approaching an astrologer. Well first ask him whether he is aware of this time shift. If he says yes, I know and I will make the adjustments accordingly then just provide him with your known birth time or the birth time that is stated in your birth certificate. (Once again, this is only APPLICABLE to MALAYSIANS/SINGAPOREANS whom were born before the year 1982 in Malaysia or Singapore.) For example, renowned Astrologer Gana Moorthy (from Yishun Mariamman Temple) will make this adjustment automatically. If you have your birth chart provided by him, take a look at the GMT hours. He will have the GMT adjusted.

But the problem arises when consulting an astrologer whom is totally not aware of this time shift and uses a GMT of +8hrs to cast the birth chart. This is where, an individual has to make the adjustments on his own. So how do you do this??

Eg: Original information:
Birth Place: Singapore (Latitude 1.3521° N, Longitude: 103.8198° E)
Date of Birth: 24 Aug 1955
Time of Birth: 10:00 AM SGT (As stated on your Birth Cert)
(Note: 10:00 AM SGT is based on GMT +7hrs 30 Min)
(Birth Time: 02:30AM GMT)

WHAT YOU NEED TO INFORM THE ASTROLOGER.
Birth Place: Singapore (Latitude 1.3521° N, Longitude: 103.8198° E)
Date of Birth: 24 Aug 1955
Time of Birth: 10.30AM SGT
(Add half an hour to your birth time stated in your birth cert. In this case, its 10.00AM + 30 Mins = 10.30AM)
(Now: 10:30AM SGT is based on GMT +8hrs 00 Min)
Because the astrologer uses a software of GMT +8hrs what happens is your birth time will become 02:30am GMT (10.30AM-8hrs = 02:30AM GMT)

In this way, the birth chart will then be cast correctly. A good Vedic Astrologer will then be able to make accurate predictions of your past and future.

Well guys, I hope this post is simple to understand and if there is any queries, please ask on the comments!!For now, provide the correct birth time to your astrologers & get great predictions about your future!! Thank you for taking the time to read this post!!

Hi, welcome to my site on Vedic Astrology. Just a brief introduction about myself. My name is Dinesh and I was born in Singapore. I graduated from Nanyang Technological University Mechanical Engineering in and graduated with Second Upper Class Honours. I was also a recipient of a Marine Scholarship and started of my Career in the Marine field. In 2013, my parents had visited an Astrologer and upon returning home, they told me that the Astrologer had made accurate predictions on specific incidents based on my Eldest Brother’s life. I was initially surprised to know how can an Astrologer be able to make such accurate predictions even without knowing him personally. Then one day, I stumbled upon a Book (Fundamentals of Indian Astrology by Kannan). I was completely glued to the book and completed understanding the book within 2 weeks. I then started visiting Prominent Astrologers in Singapore & India (while i was there) and realized they were able to make accurate predictions about my life. Surprisingly, a few astrologers even predicted I will start reading horoscopes in the future. In retrospect, it is true. I then started reading books and articles on Astrology and eventually completed a certification in Astrology from Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Delhi. I still do attend Distance Education courses whenever any renowned Institutions conduct Astrology Courses. Currently, I practice Astrology to spread the awareness that our Indian Forefathers have passed down to us and also aid people from various walks of life through Astrology. Vedic Astrology is a Gem that the Indian Sages propounded since ancient times. With this knowledge, one will be able to preempt the future and thereby take necessary actions to be cautious during adversities and be a risk taker during fortunate periods.
